Finding the Right Eyelash Extension Trainer

Finally, you’ve decided to pursue a career in lash extensions. You’ve done preliminary research, maybe even get your own lashes done and decide this is the path you want to take. The next step is the most crucial, picking the best eyelash extension trainer. Ladies, I know it may sound outrageous paying upwards of $700.00 for eyelash training, but you must think about it. You are learning to work near a very sensitive area, the eye. Also, if this is a profession you plan on having, don’t you want to learn from the best? Your future is your investment. Cost of training, student-instructor ratio, and research are three things to consider when deciding on a training course.

Cost of Training will let you know right away if the lash training course is worth enrolling in. If a lash trainer is charging $500.00 or less, run for the hills. Lash training is extensive and hands-on. There are many subjects to cover, hands-on demonstrations, and materials needed that easily surpass the $500 mark. If the instructor is constantly running promotions of trainings, you should shy away from that training company. As I said before, Lash instruction is an intense job, no true professional would devalue their work and charge less than what is deserved.

Student to instructor ratio is very vital. As a student, you want to have hands-on training and be able to interact with your instructor through out your training course. The ideal ratio is one instructor for every three to five students. This way students will learn in an intimate training environment. There is a lot of information from lash styling to sanitation. Learning from an instructor in the front of the class on a projector is not ideal.

Research the lash training company. Before committing your time and money to a company do some research on their instructors. View their work, read past client and student reviews, and look for their training resume. How long have they been lashing? How long have they been training? Those are a couple questions you should ask yourself when investigating. Again, this is an investment in your future. I have heard so many horror stories of lash artists-to-be being taken advantage of by traveling lash trainings at different hotels with twenty or more students. There is absolutely no way anyone can learn to properly install lashes in a two-day training sitting elbow to elbow with other students installing lashes on mannequin heads within the first twenty minutes of the class.

You must be vigilant. Currently there is no governing body that regulates lash training or the lash industry. While the American Eyelash Association is on a mission to expose faulty lash training companies, it is your duty to examine these instructors. When you are looking for a training course find someone who is passionate, organized, and diligent about their craft. Also, state regulations vary. Depending on where you are located, there may be more qualifications needed. For an example of my lash training curriculum, click here. I offer an in-depth, intimate class setting for aspiring lash artists. I require live lash models for my students to practice on and I provide lash kits and handbooks.
